Why I’m Obsessed With My Rooftop Tent (And Think You’ll Love It Too)
In my last blog post, I spilled the tea on everything that drives me a little crazy about rooftop tent camping, but today, I’m flipping the script and gushing about why I’m absolutely obsessed with it.
Let me put it this way: if you ever sleep in a rooftop tent, you’ll get it. Until then, I’ll try my best to explain why I’m so obsessed with mine, and why it’s one of the best upgrades I’ve ever made to my camping setup.
Whether you're brand new to camping or just tired of waking up sore, wet, and frustrated, here’s exactly why rooftop tent camping just hits different.
1. Setup Takes Two Seconds (Seriously)
Okay, not literally two seconds, but pretty close. One of the biggest perks of my rooftop tent is how easy it is to set up. You just pop it open, throw in a couple of support poles, and you’re done. Compared to the usual tent puzzle of poles, clips, and confusion, it’s dreamy.
2. You Can Camp Literally Anywhere Flat
No stressing about finding a dry, flat, or non-rocky patch of ground. You just park, pop up the tent, and you're home for the night. And unlike ground tents, you never have to worry about waking up in a puddle. I’ve had plenty of soggy mornings on the ground… but never once in my rooftop tent.
3. Built-In Mattress = Game Changer
If you’re tired of waking up with your back wrecked from a night of camping, this one’s for you. Rooftop tents come with a built-in foam mattress, mine is about 3 inches thick, and I even added extra foam underneath for the full princess treatment. No more sliding off your sleeping pad and no more waking up puffy because your head was lower than your feet. Just solid, cozy sleep.
4. It’s Basically a Tree-House for Adults
This might be my favourite thing: it feels like a little tree-house adventure every time I camp. The tent is your comfy sleeping loft, and below it, you’ve got all this space for gear; clothes, food, garbage, whatever. It keeps everything organized, out of your sleep space, and way more chill than the usual chaotic campsite.
5. Ready for Adventure Anytime
Maybe the best part of all: it’s always ready. I keep my rooftop tent on my Jeep all summer long, so if I want to head out after work or take off on a last-minute weekend trip, I can. I just toss my gear into a bin, grab snacks, and hit the road. No stress, no fuss, just spontaneous camping magic.
TL;DR: A Rooftop Tent is the Car-Camping Upgrade You Didn’t Know You Needed
If you’re curious about rooftop tent camping or thinking of making the leap, do it. It’s comfy, easy, spontaneous, and honestly just makes camping feel more fun again. Whether you're a weekend warrior or living the road trip life, I promise: one night up there, and you'll understand the hype.
